In 2019 a very young and unassuming Tanacha Saunders (T) came down to the Drysdale Football Club for a training session, Tanacha had moved down from Mackay, North Queensland for University and was living in Drysdale with her grandma. We didn’t know much about T, we had heard that she had played football back in Queensland but she didn’t give much away. When she was speaking with Stu at the start of the training session, he said that we’d have a look at her skills and see if we played T in the Under 18’s competition or the seniors. It was apparent straight away, that T was ready to be in the senior team. After the training session Stu pressed for a little bit more information, turned out that T had won her local club (Mackay City Hawks) Best & Fairest, Most Consistent and got runners up in the league Best & Fairest and was also selected into the Gold Coast Academy. So we knew from that point that T was destined for greatness.

In 2019 & 2021 Tanacha was selected to train with the Geelong Cats VFLW and was an emergency player. In 2019 she was Drysdale Football Club’s runner up Best & Fairest. This year Tanacha came 3rd in the League Best and Fairest and took out the Drysdale Football Club’s 2021 Best & Fairest.

Over the years we have loved watching Tanacha grow not only as a player but as a person, you will not meet a more kind, loyal and respectful young lady!

Unfortunately for us, Tanacha has completed her University studies and will be heading home to Mackay, however we are so proud of her and can’t wait to see what she achieves next.

The Drysdale Football Club is a better place for having had T be a part of it.

We love you T, thank you for everything
