A mixed weekend of joy and sorrow for the Hawks nest. Here's what went down.....

Seniors Prelim Final Drysdale V Barwon Heads

Drysdale 7.12.54 were defeated by Barwon Heads 13.12.90

Best Players - Jack Jenkins, Tom Ruggles, Flinn Chisholm, Lauchlan Dalgleish, Tevan Nofi, Ben Ryan

Goal Kickers - Mat Hebbard 4 (finishing the year on 95 goals, an amazing season!) Ben Fennell, Ben Ryan and Jarrod Garth 1

Unfortunately the year is now over for the seniors, losing to Barwon Heads. The Seagulls took advantage of inaccuracy early, making it tough going to peg back the 5 goal to 2 1st quarter. Never out of the game, the senior team battled hard. Barwon Heads were just a bit better across the ground, who now go onto face Torquay in next weeks Grand Final.

Injuries didn’t help the Hawks with star midfielder Ben Fennell and Lauchlan Dalgleish each falling victim to persistent niggles.

QUOTE from the Coach courtesy of the Geelong Advertiser

"He (Fennell) has had a knee injury and it went on him in the warm up,” Drysdale co-coach Ben Carmichael said. “Lauchy Dalgleish did his calf in the second quarter as well, so it was really gallant for those guys to keep playing and stay out there. “Not ideal, but I think a few sides are banged up playing finals.” After Drysdale finished sixth in 2021 and 2019, Carmichael – who took over the coaching reigns alongside Tom Ruggles in August last year – said he “absolutely” would have taken a preliminary final appearance heading into the season. “From where we’ve come from, to make it this far and to have the season we had, it’s been really exciting for our club,” he said. “Obviously today was disappointing, but we’re still proud of our season. “The boys are a bit banged up and a bit disappointed, but we’re extremely proud of our year and where we’ve come from.”

Reserves Prelim Final Drysdale V Geelong Amateur

Drysdale 12.6.78 defeated Amos 8.4.52

Best - Mitch O'Dowd, Joel Watson, Jake Hargreaves, Taylor Bonner, Ashley Bryant

Goals - Jake Hargreaves 4, Darcy Mullen, Nick Moriarty 3, Mitch O'Dowd 2

Plenty on the line for the Hawks Ressie's and after a quick start to the 1st quarter, and a 5 goal 2nd quarter to Ammo's, our boys needed to regroup in the second half. They certainly did playing a 2nd half deserving of a spot in the Grand Final, kicking 7 goals to 2 to finish off the game.

There was some excellent individual games all over the field, Mitch O'Dowd class on show in the middle and up forward, Joel Watson taking multiple defensive marks as Ammo's got a run on, and a very exciting forward setup, with Darcy Mullen & Jake Hargreaves back in the team. Nick Moriarty throwing his body into the contest at every opportunity.
The group's resilience to fight off a determined Ammo's was on show, and it is very exciting to be getting ready for a shot at the flag! Best on - the whole team.....it was a team first effort.....Trev, Coach.

Under 18 Qualifying Final Drysdale V Torquay

Drysdale 12.9.81 defeated Torquay 3.6.24

Best - Ricky Reid, Jye Hawkins, Christopher Tainton, Luke Chapman, Hamish Labbett, Sebastian Rizzo

Goals - Joshua Miles 4, Dylan Grace, Harvey Mason, William Rees 2, Ricky Reid, Declan Foley 1.

Yesterday Drysdale Hawks were up against Torquay in the first Final, winner advancing directly into the grand final. The past two encounters against Torquay were both tough games but Drysdale managed to win and yesterday was no exception.

We had to make a statement and grab an early start, which we did kicking the first 3 goals and going into the first break 2 goals up.
The second quarter we continued on with our effort in a tight contest managing to stretch the lead to 4 goals at the main break. We knew that we needed to come out hard as Torquay would be keen to get back into the game. The boys really turned it on and opened up a good lead of 44 points heading into the last.
We then hit Torquay with everything in what was an awesome 4 quarter effort against the second placed team running out winners by 57 points.
A grand final place up for grabs and the complete 23 players stood up. Now we have a week off and wait for our next opponent. Go Hawks! Damo, Coach.
