Welcome to our 2016 Season.

As the new Junior Co-ordinator I am excited by the prospects of the season ahead.  In 2015 our club provided a great football experience for over 250 juniors, plus 100 Auskickers, and we look forward to welcoming even more young Hawks to our ranks this season. Some highlights to share are:

Introduction of U9 football – this year AFL Barwon have introduced an U19 competition.  It will be 15 a side with modified rules and players must have turned 7 years old.  Our club welcomes this move as we had almost 60 kids in U10 last year as a result of the constant inflow from our Auskick program. Having a specialised program for the younger kids will be great for them and should also alter the makeup of U10’s, possibly improving the standard of their games.

Continuation of Junior Girls Football – Our club is again working hard to recruit girls to continue the great work we started last year.  Rachael Martin was fantastic at pulling a team together last year and has committed to helping maintain and attract players. Whilst Rach’s work commitments will prevent her from head coach role she is already in discussion with a great candidate to take her place …watch this space.

Emphasis on great coaching – At Drysdale we have always been fortunate with the quality of coaches we have been able to attract.  We are off to a great start this year with current player, and 2014 Senior B&F winner, Josh Hopgood taking on the role of co-coach of the U16 squad with Josh Deeath. The boys will be assisted by Marc Rodway who assisted with the Premiership winning U16 second side last year. Marc will coach our second U16 side on the weekends. We still have some positions available at all levels below U16 and anyone interested should go to the junior section of our website for details.  In addition to great team coaches we will also have a panel of former players coming along to training to work with individuals on their skills.

Auskick –Last year’s Auskick program was one of the best ever and we again have great plans for 2016.  Registrations (done directly via the AFL online) should be open in February and we will provide details once they are to hand.

Online Registrations – this year we will again be using the Fox Sports Pulse registration system, but this year we have added the ability to make online payments.  At the end of the month we will send emails to all 2015 registered players inviting them to re-register.  Players coming from Auskick can also ‘roll over’ into the junior system.  Memberships have again been reviewed and this year will differ between our Primary Level Players (U9 – U12) and our Secondary Level Players (U14 – U16).  Primary level has been reduced to $110 whilst Secondary Level has increased to $140.  This variation has been introduced to better reflect the costs involved at each level.  We will still have a Family membership available at $260 to cover two adults and two players, and third children or more will be $60 each.  Membership this year will again include a free item of club apparel … watch this space.

New Member sign Up Day – for those not currently registered with Drysdale we will hold a sign up day at 11am on Sunday February 14th where you can come down to the rooms and receive assistance with joining our club.  We are keen to welcome new players.

Season Launch – At this stage we plan to hold a junior season launch at our first Senior home game on April 2nd.  Players and their parents will be invited to watch the game, receive a brief address from club officials whilst the kids receive a free hot dog and soft drink, more details will follow.

Facebook – Please make sure you are following both the Drysdale Hawks Football Inc page as well as Drysdale FC Juniors page.  Once the season gets closer we will re-introduce a page for each age group so that you can stay in touch with events affecting your team.
