DFC Junior Newsletter March 2015

G’day and welcome to our first ‘online’ newsletter for 2015.

Registrations
junior sign up dayWe had heaps of kids and parents turn up to our inaugural Sign Up and Family Fun Day, however the system was hamstrung a little by the need for parents to process the registrations themselves online, which relied on successfully receiving an email via the Fox Sporting Pulse system.  As many parents have told us they did not receive the email, we have provided a direct link to the re-registration site for you.  Please go to our home page where there is a feature on how to register your child, then follow the steps. The most likely starting point for most will be the second option, ‘I would like to request my username and password’.  Good luck and let us know if you have any problems.  (and once you have registered, payment can be made at the club)

 

Auskick
auskick logoOur club is once again running the Auskick program this year.  At this stage we plan to conduct the sessions at the Drysdale Primary School oval on Sunday mornings, with a few Friday nights sessions as well.

We are keen to hear from potential Auskick coaches, Coordinators and helpers so that we can include you in our plans. Please contact our junior co-ordinator, Adrian Viccars, if you are interested in helping your child and their friends learn to play this great game through Auskick – And yes……we need lots of assistance so please come forward.  Registration and payment for Auskick is made directly via their website.  To register your Auskicker see the news feature on our home page.

 

Insurance, Ambulance and Health Cover
From your membership fee approximately $43 per junior player goes directly to AFL Victoria via direct billing to the Club.  This fee  provides insurance through the JLT Sport insurance scheme for 75% of non-Medicare medical items. (Note: it cannot cover the gap between a Medicare covered expense and the Medicare refund received, and claims must be lodged within 180 days of the injury).

Players at all levels are however strongly advised to take out Ambulance cover. Whilst ambulance costs are covered by the JLT insurance, if you are not an ambulance member you would have to pay the account first then go through the process of claiming back 75%. The cost of Ambulance transport from a Bellarine ground to the Geelong Hospital could be $4,000 or more!

Medical expenses are not paid by the club but per above some components may be claimable under the JLT insurance cover mentioned above. However, for maximum protection all players are strongly advised to have private health cover for both hospital and ancillary benefits.

Season Start – time to consider equipment
The Geelong Junior Football League season officially commences on the weekend of  Saturday 11th April, so less than a month away now.  It may be time to think about getting your boots, shorts and socks organised.  This year we are told that Rebel is the place to go for shorts and socks, as De Grandi’s aren’t stocking them.  Whilst you are there be sure to pick up a mouthguard, as this year our junior teams have a ‘no mouthguard no play’ policy.  Alternatively you may consider a custom made mouthguard from a dentist…Springdale Family Dental at 31 High Street Drysdale are a sponsor and are offering the following prices for members:
Custom made Single colour $66 or Multiple colours $77. Just tell them you are from the Drysdale Hawks FC. Lets support the local people who are supporting us!

Under 12 Girls Team 
554994-girls-afl-compWe are all set to go with our new Under 12 girls team! If you have a daughter who loved Auskick, you can now register her to continue playing in the new girls competition run by AFL Barwon. Even if she has never played before, or plays netball on a Saturday, she can register to play in this Sunday competition. Coach Rachael Martin is running an information and registration night this Wednesday March 18th at 5.30pm at the clubrooms, so why not come down and find out about this exciting new competition. Events and Fundraising
The new junior subcommittee has been very active with fundraising BBQ’s at Aldi, Safeway and recently at the Simmonds display home….a big thank you to all who have come along to help.  the next BBQ is at Aldi this Saturday the 21st March from 7.30 – 2.30.  Please contact Adrian if you can help out.

Also on our Calendar is the Junior Season Launch, on Friday March 27th at 6.30pm.  We have a free BBQ for the kids along with some important briefings from key people about the season.  Also on the night the U14′s will be having an intra club practice match, which will provide some entertainment.

facebook logoAs you can see we are trying to lift the level of communication with junior players and members this year.  One of the ways we are doing this is by the use of a club Facebook page specifically for the Junior Division.  this page is used to pass on information in between these monthly newsletters and puts you in instant contact with the junior co-ordinator and subcommittee.  To join the page just click on the following link.  Drysdale Juniors FB

Please be aware that social media needs to be used responsibly and there is a Cyber Safety policy under the Governance tab above.  Also, we ask that members do not create pages purporting to represent our club or a team without the prior approval to do so from the committee.

Trainers and Team Managers
Our junior teams cannot run successfully without good team managers and sports trainers.  We ask that all parents please consider assist us in filling these roles.  Michelle Coleman (who’s details are on the contacts page under Juniors above) is our Team Manager co-ordinator and would love to hear from willing volunteers.  Training for managers will be held in a few weeks time.  With regard to trainers, it would of course help if you had some first aid or nursing training, however there is a trainers course in April which we will pay for you to attend.  We will also run training in taping techniques as required. If you can help in this area contact Ross ‘Barney’ Deeath via the Contacts page.
