Drysdale Under 12 Gold’s training last Friday was conducted by dual Brownlow medallist Greg (Diesel) Williams.
Greg took the kids for the full one hour training and showed them correct kicking and handballing techniques as well as several drills and a mini-game.
He finished with a question and answer session, followed by an autograph signing session.The boys were extremely well behaved and put in their best training effort for the year. For the season they currently have 2 wins and last week at Drysdale lost by 2 points to Torquay Grossman who had won 181 to 0 the week before.

The next big Social date to mark in the diary is the Comedy Night on May 19 after we take on Newcomb at home. We have been lucky enough to secure the services of two of Australia’s funniest men, Des Dowling, & Tom Seigert as well as internationally renowned Englishman Jeff Green for what will be an outstanding night of first class entertainment. DRYSDALE premiership player Adrian Hildebrand’s career is almost certainly over after a sickening injury during his club’s reserves clash with Anglesea on Saturday.

Hildebrand was just two matches into a comeback when he amazingly dislocated both of his knee caps during a marking contest in the first quarter. “I looked down and the knee caps were not in the right spots,” he said from from his hospital room yesterday.

The forward was immediately stretchered from the field, rushed to hospital in an ambulance and is due to undergo surgery to reconnect both patellas today.

He will miss a minimum three months of work and will be confined to a wheelchair for the next few weeks. Once he is out of the wheelchair it will take another four to six weeks before he can have 30 degree movement in his knees again.

Hildebrand was in good spirits yesterday despite the injury and joked he should have constructed more ramps in the house he built last year.

It is terrible news for the club veteran who was just returning from a year off. Hildebrand played a crucial role in the Hawks’ back-to-back flags before deciding to take a break to build a house and welcome his first child.

He was expected to slot back into the seniors after getting some reserves matches under his belt however, football is now the last thing on his mind and he said the injury would most likely mean the end of his playing career.

“That’ll probably be it I’d reckon cause it’s pretty intense (the rehab),” he said.

“I was talking to the surgeon and he said it’s a pretty intense recovery just to get back to working and that sort of stuff so realistically it’s probably about it for me.”

Drysdale president Greg Scott said the club supported Hildebrand and hoped he would make a full recovery

Players then took part in a bike session, pool session and team meeting regarding game plan outlines and set plays.

We were also lucky to have 3 time premiership player, brownlow medalist, all Australian team member, best and fairest and norm smith medalist Jimmy Bartel come and speak to us about preparation, leadership, training and game play for about an hour. The players got a lot out of Jimmy’s talk and can now use some of this in there own games.
Over the next day and a half, the players also took part in different training sessions where we focussed on skills and game play. Well done to all players who attended the camp and it’s great to see very pleasing results.

The club is currently looking for parents to help out as trainers for all age groups. This involves first-aid, strapping etc. The club is willing to cover the cost of any courses required to take on this role, e.g. first-aid course. Mouthguards are available again this year through Robert Petrini, Cnr High St & Eversley St, Drysdale. Plain mouthguards $77, Colored $88.

The U16 group is currently training at St Ignatius oval on Tuesday & Thursday at 5pm. The U14 group will have their first training session at St Ignatius oval on Friday 2nd March at 4:30pm. The U14 coaches will speak to the boys to establish the best training days/times for them. The U12′s & U10′s will start training in the coming weeks.
